Q2 Marketing Strategy: Simplifying and Scaling

Updated: Apr 24

As a side hustler balancing a full-time job, family, and entrepreneurship, marketing can feel like a never-ending grind. In Q1, I found myself completely burnt out and overwhelmed by marketing my business. I was overthinking content, spending too much time editing, and feeling stretched thin by trying to show up on every platform.

That’s when I knew it was time to revamp my strategy. I needed something more intentional and sustainable that allowed me to maximize my time and energy. In this blog post, I’m breaking down my Q2 marketing strategy, including what I’m cutting out, what I’m doubling down on, and how I’m making marketing work for me rather than against me.

What I’m Stopping in Q2

1. Stressing Over Vanity Metrics

One of the biggest mistakes I made in Q1 was obsessing over vanity metrics. As a marketer and content creator, I was getting caught up in likes, views, and shares, letting those numbers dictate how I felt about my business. When my numbers dropped significantly after pivoting from lifestyle to business content, I took it personally and felt discouraged.

But here’s the truth: vanity metrics don’t pay the bills. Focusing on them was not only draining but also distracting me from my actual goals. Instead of worrying about numbers, I’m choosing to focus on my purpose and continue showing up for my ideal clients, regardless of how many likes or views I get.

2. Overextending Myself on Multiple Platforms

Another mistake I made was trying to be everywhere at once—YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest—you name it. I thought that as a digital marketer, I had to be on every platform, but that just wasn’t sustainable for a one-woman team. Now, I’m choosing to focus on just two platforms: Instagram and my podcast.

By narrowing down my efforts, I can produce higher quality content without feeling overwhelmed. I’m also holding off on platforms that don’t bring consistent results or where I can’t show up with excellence.

What I’m Prioritizing in Q2

1. Increasing Visibility Through Collaborations

Visibility is crucial for growth, especially when you’re a side hustler trying to reach new audiences. In Q2, I’m doubling down on collaborations like guest appearances on podcasts, Instagram Lives, and even local networking events. I recently landed a collaboration with a local women’s entrepreneurship organization here in Houston, simply by pitching myself and offering to help with their content strategy.

2. Networking in Real Life

Online marketing is great, but nothing beats face-to-face connections. I plan to attend at least two networking events per month, focusing on niche-specific gatherings where my ideal clients hang out. By showing up in person, I’m building real relationships that can lead to long-term clients and partnerships.

3. Minimizing Marketing Channels and Optimizing What Works

Instead of spreading myself too thin, I’m focusing on the platforms that consistently bring leads and revenue: Instagram and my podcast. Instagram has been great for generating leads through optimized content and hashtags, while my podcast builds community and provides value in a deeper, more personal way.

4. Building a Referral Program

Word-of-mouth marketing is powerful, and I’m planning to implement a referral program where I pay out 10% of the booked package price in cold, hard cash. This will not only incentivize happy clients to refer me but also create a steady stream of leads without constantly grinding for new business.

5. Personal Outreach and Pitching

Rather than waiting for clients to come to me, I’m proactively reaching out. During my 30-day social media challenge, I personally invited people through DMs and saw a massive boost in my email list—50 new subscribers in one day! This taught me that personal outreach works, and I’ll continue using this strategy for future promotions.

Key Takeaways

If you’re feeling burnt out from marketing or overwhelmed by all the platforms, it’s time to simplify. Focus on what works and let go of what doesn’t. Track your progress, give your strategy at least 90 days to show results, and always look for ways to optimize.

Most importantly, remember that your business is unique. Don’t force yourself to follow strategies that don’t align with your energy or lifestyle. Focus on showing up authentically, building relationships, and delivering value, and the results will follow.
