How to Market Your Business Without Relying Solely on Social Media

A person views a social media feed on a phone while a laptop screen displays marketing text for women entrepreneurs. Marble tabletop visible.

If you’re a business owner who dreads posting on social media but feels like you have to in order to market your brand, this post is for you. Recently, I sat down with Andria Singletary, a visibility strategist and mompreneur, on The Side-HustlHER Podcast®. We discussed effective ways to market your business without relying solely on social media, and how to increase sales through alternative strategies.

From Virtual Assistant to Visibility Strategist

Andria’s journey began after the birth of her son in April 2020, right at the height of the pandemic. The experience of becoming a mom reshaped her career goals. She knew she wanted to be present for all her children’s milestones, so returning to a nine-to-five was not an option.

Andria initially started as a virtual assistant but quickly discovered social media management wasn’t for her. Instead, she leaned into her love for podcasting and eventually became a podcast manager. But as she supported more clients, she noticed a common problem: her clients weren’t leveraging their podcasts as part of their marketing and sales strategies.

They were mostly doing interviews and talking about everything except their expertise. Andria made it her mission to help women use their podcasts to enhance their visibility, make impactful connections, and grow their businesses. But after life threw her some unexpected challenges—her daughter having a seizure and her son being diagnosed with autism—she had to shift her business model to better fit her new season of life.

This led her to focus on becoming a visibility strategist who helps women grow their businesses through alternative marketing methods that don’t rely solely on social media.

The Problem with Relying Solely on Social Media

Andria shared a truth many entrepreneurs are frustrated with: relying on social media to generate leads, nurture them, and convert them into clients is exhausting. You have to create endless amounts of content while battling the algorithm that often doesn’t favor business owners. And the reality is, your posts are only reaching a tiny fraction of your audience—sometimes as low as 2-5%.

She emphasizes that as moms, our energy and time are limited. Spending countless hours creating content for platforms that barely give us the visibility we deserve just doesn’t make sense.

Effective Marketing Strategies Without Social Media

Here are some of the strategies Andria recommends for marketing your business beyond social media:

1. Leverage SEO-Based Platforms

SEO-driven platforms like podcasting, blogging, and YouTube bring high-quality leads because they attract people actively searching for solutions. When people find your content via SEO, they are usually ready to invest in a solution right away.

2. Collaborations

Andria is a big advocate for collaborating with others to grow your visibility. This includes:

  • Podcast Guesting

  • Speaking at Conferences and Summits

  • Participating in Bundles (Where multiple experts offer free resources to a shared audience)

  • In-Person Networking (Attending local business events and meetups)

  • Referral-Based Marketing (Creating a great client experience so they can’t help but share you with others)

3. Build an Email List

Your email list is your most valuable asset. By pitching your lead magnets during collaborations or guest appearances, you can continually grow your list. As Andria puts it, your email list should be your VIP community where you provide behind-the-scenes content, special offers, and high-value resources.

The Power of Repurposing Content

Andria emphasizes the importance of working smarter, not harder. She repurposes her podcast content for threads posts, emails, and even blog content. Creating one piece of high-value content and breaking it down into smaller pieces allows her to be everywhere without being burnt out.

Creating an Ecosystem That Works For You

The key takeaway from our conversation was to create an ecosystem where social media is just one piece of the puzzle—not the whole thing. Andria’s podcast, Marketing Without Socials for Moms, is her primary traffic generator. From there, she repurposes content across other platforms and collaborates with other creators to expand her reach.

She emphasizes the importance of finding what works best for your business and leaning into that. Not every strategy will work for everyone, and that's okay.

Key Mistakes To Avoid

  1. Ghosting Your Social Media Community: If you plan to pivot away from social media, announce it. Invite your followers to join your email list or another platform where you’ll be active.

  2. Trying to Implement Everything at Once: Start with one new strategy, perfect it, and then add another. Trying to do everything at once will only lead to burnout.

Final Thoughts
